Anyone who has spent a week or more on the road in their RV knows how expensive and inconvenient buying bottled water can quickly become. When used for washing, drinking and cooking it simply is not cost-efficient to use prepackaged water; having a water filtration system in your vehicle is a worthwhile investment that will pay for itself while providing peace of mind about your potable water supply.
Do You Need An RV Water Filter?
Do any of these things apply to your RV kitchen sink? Water that tastes bad, smells terrible, barely flows out of the faucet and even has a strange tint that doesn't seem natural; if this sounds familiar it is time to go shopping. With the amount of chemicals that are often present in our natural water supply it is unwise to chance drinking some that hasn't been run through an RV water filter beforehand; you wouldn't do it at your house, so why would it be any different on the road?

Just like the attachment that might be on your faucet back home, an RV filtration system uses simple processes to provide the cleanest, safest drinking water for your family and friends. Most come in the form of a filter canister that can be mounted in nearly any position on your vehicle. Inside this contraption a carbon filter and sediment filter work together to find and separate nearly everything that you don't want to ingest. Rest assured that the cup of water you pour at night for yourself will not contain harmful contaminants or chemicals, simply the finest blend of hydrogen and oxygen that your body needs.
Don't Be Intimidated
At first it may be overwhelming to see all of the wires and tubes that protrude from your new water filtration system but don't worry; once installed they are simple to operate and clean. Love high-pressure showers? You can even adjust the gauge on the pressure regulator to control just how much water will come out when your faucets are turned on. Keeping your RV water filter properly maintained will ensure that harmful chemicals that not only smell and taste bad but are actually detrimental to your health will be a thing of the past.

This is a scenario that none of us wants to deal with but most of us will be forced to over the course of our lives. What do we do when our water doesn't descend from the tap clear-but is yellow or red or brown?
Fortunately, there is probably an easy explanation for some of these water discoloration problems. According to MassDEP (the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection), brown, red, orange and yellow water can usually be attributed to rust-be it rust in the water main or the pipes in the building in which you reside.
The various colors are usually attributed to states of chemical oxidation of the iron and by the concentrations of rust in the water, according to MassDEP. And, according to the government agency, "the discolored water is not a health threat." Which is a huge relief to homeowners and apartment dwellers who wonder how long they have been drinking tainted water.
To address the problem, according to MassDEP, it's important to determine whether the problem is in your building or with the city/town water supply. This can be done by following some easy steps, such as determining if the water clears after it has run for a few minutes or if the problem occurs at only one or two faucets in the house, among several other steps. By determining the source of the problem, the solution can be quick to follow.
So while yellow or brown water can look disgusting and can lead one to believe it's certainly a health risk, organizations like the MassDEP argue that rust-related problems like this are not a threat to citizens' health.

Storm Water Filters - Protecting Our Groundwater From Chemicals and Debris in Storm Water Run-Off
Do you cringe every time you see sediment, cigarette butts, candy wrappers and other debris washed down the drain? Don't stand by idly! Read on to find out how to stop it.
Seriously. There's no need to just watch and do nothing. You can stop all that debris and a whole lot more from contaminating the water supply.
Just use storm water filters, especially with a storm drain filter insert. The water will flow through but all the junk will stay in the filter and can be removed safely.
And that's good news for the environment. Especially since the candy wrappers and cigarette butts are the least of the environmental threats that would be flowing into the ground water.
Think oil and chemical residues, particularly from parking lots and other places where cars and machinery are parked. They will leak all sorts of noxious fluids, from oil to coolants.
I'm sure you're aware that storm water pollution is a big concern. It keeps officials searching for solutions not just nationally, but locally as well.
And you can help, simply by installing storm water filters in the drains under your control. They will remove any waste from the storm water that flows down the drain. That way, it cannot become a problem, and the water system's safety is maintained.
Depending on the kind of debris or chemicals that are likely to be in the storm water run-off, you can choose different filters and especially filter inserts.

Nutnfancy wilderness outing vids are pretty much like a reality TV show at this point. As "Summer Snow Episode 4" picks up, you come along for our firemaking exercise as it continues at high elevation. My philosophy on it has been covered in other TNP vids but here I have to instruct my son in it. It's a skill that must be practiced and fully understood. In good weather, dry conditions, and low wind, firemaking is easy. But we practice worse case here, getting to dry wood and its sharp edges by cutting down and batoning some dead wood. Tools are the excellent Sawvivor backpack saw and Ontario Spec-Plus Gen II SP-46 (reviewed separately). We practice safe cutting too;: a bad cut up here could mean bad things. A gratifying fire results (note all unburned wood was extinguished, dispersed, hidden afterwards to prevent eyesore). No fire ring was needed or made for this temporary practice blaze. We get distracted by Allie's antics in the mountain ponds as she gets to practice some "duck" retrieves. Then water adventure ensues with Last Suspect and "dogness" going out in the awesome Sevylor Trailboat. Danger lurks in the 40ºF water and we take appropriate cautions (discussed in vid). The funnest and safest rafting takes place on the ponds where the wind is diminished. Great memories. Dinner time rolls around as video length time runs out. .
