Filtration, Part 4 - Under gravel filters and fluidized bed filters

Filtration, Part 4 - Under gravel filters and fluidized bed filters

Water Filter

It is an under gravel filter as a biological function, but also large foreign body can naturally also be captured in the substrate. In this type of filtering the water through the substrate is mounted on the bottom of the tank via an air bridge or the head of power, forced by an air bridge. To ensure that the filter works properly, the aquarium, in general, instead of gravel on a perforated surface. The filter current is caused by bacteria that colonize the surface of the executedevery pebble of sand or corn. The smaller the particles, solve the more surface area for bacteria. An under gravel filter should not use large gravel. If you pick up in the air and various Powerheads choose, you should keep in mind that a current undesirable in a very fast under gravel filter.

Under gravel filter is cheap, but difficult to clean, especially for inexperienced aquarists. If a lot of debrisstuck in the gravel, will seriously impede filtration. You can reduce the risk by putting a sponge in water consumption. In this way the water is mechanically filtered before it is forced through the filter gravel. Remember to regularly clean the sponge.

Another way to avoid blocks, the so-called "reverse flow gravel filtration" deal. While this type of filtration is a head of power used to carry water through the gravel. Under gravel filterare more often found in freshwater aquarium, but they are only fish in the aquarium, even if the aquarium is heavily loaded. A reef aquarium is usually necessary to strengthen the forms of filtration barrier filters with gravel because they tend to be extremely sensitive to poor water quality.

Fluidized Bed Filters

Fluidized bed filters are often used in aquariums planted. Unlike many other types of filters, they will not release carbon dioxide from the water. This filter is similar to that under gravel filter, but is smaller than grains of sand instead of gravel together. Both the under gravel filter bed and fluid filters are biological filters, bacterial colonization need to work, since small particles of sand and gravel as we have more space for bacteria in a fluidized bed filter to settle the bets.

Another difference is between the gravel under the filter and the filter fluidized bed, the result of a more compact andhas a strong forced flow. In the fluidized bed filter of sand around quite violently and fell because the water is highly aerated. This in turn will provide the bacteria with a lot of precious oxygen. This means a strong flow of water that these filters get clogged often, and not spend too much time on maintenance. If constipation occurs, must be solved immediately, because oxygen-free fluid bed filter is not healthy forAquarium.

There are various types of fluidized bed filters finished to choose from, and you can also make your own filters. This filter can be placed in the aquarium or go outside of the aquarium as a filter network. If you make your bed filter fluid, you should keep in mind that should work for a very strong water pump.
